Happy Star Wars Day!
It is also the day of my 5K. I've been thinking about it since 6am this morning, wondering what sort of pace I should aim for. I was curious if an 8min/mile would be realistic because that would end in a kick ass time for me. Unfortunately, I have no way of really tracking pace.
One goal is to finish as one of the top 25 females overall. The other is to finish as one the top 10 females in my age group. Based on last year's results, out of the 600 women and the 50 in my age group, I could potentially achieve these goals.
This morning, to get an idea of where I stand, I went for a 4 mile run. I surely didn't go at race pace. I'll save that energy for later.
That puts me at an 8:20min/mile pace which may not my goal pace for the race, but good for a prep run.
I decided that if I PR, I will treat myself out to dinner. If I don't PR, I'll treat myself to a home cooked dinner. Either way, I win! :)
As for the Half, I decided to join the 2:00 pace group. I'll do the sign up at the expo this evening. 2:00 is going to be challenging, but I know I can do it. Especially if I have guidance from the pros. That will be another PR to my list. I figure if I'm going to get 2 medals from participating in these races, I may as well earn them to the max!
Anyway, I'm about to bite into this mega bagel sandwich...
...and once Peter gets done mowing the lawn, we are going to get ready to go to the expo!
I hope you all are having a lovely Saturday!
Do you run the morning before a race?
Do you set race goals for yourself?
What did you have for lunch?
